Symptoms of Genetic Disorders
The symptoms of genetic disorders vary depending on the disorder itself. Some of the most noticeable symptoms of genetic disorders include:
- Fever: This is one of the common symptoms in the case of genetic disorders like sickle cell anemia, periodic fever syndrome, and familial Mediterranean fever. Constant low-grade fever must never be ignored especially if it lasts for more than days or even weeks.
- Breathlessness: Genetic disorders that affect the functioning of the lungs cause symptoms like breathlessness. It is common in the case of diseases like sickle cell anemia and cystic fibrosis.
- Disproportionate Features: Certain genetic disorders like Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, and Tay - Sachs disease produce symptoms like odd facial features, swollen belly, and floppy posture.
- Swallowing Difficulty: People suffering from disorders like Niemann-Pick Disease and Tay-Sachs disease very commonly have trouble swallowing and in feeding.
- Spastic Movements: This symptom is common in people suffering from Niemann-Pick Disease, Down syndrome, and Tay - Sachs disease.
- Seizures: These are very common in people with disorders like Gaucher disease, Tay – Sachs disease, down syndrome, and Niemann-Pick Disease.
