Prevention from Gestational Diabetes

Although nothing can guarantee the prevention of gestational diabetes, following healthy dietary habits before and during your pregnancy may help lower the risk of gestational diabetes and other related complications. Certain important points to keep in mind:

  • Healthy Foods: Before and during your pregnancy, increase the daily intake of foods rich in fiber and low in calories and fats. Eat a variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
  • Exercise: Regular exercise and daily physical activity plays a vital role in preventing gestational diabetes. Take a 30-minute walk everyday or indulge in some other form of non-strenuous exercise to increase your chances of having a diabetes free pregnancy.
  • Lose Weight Before Pregnancy: Losing extra body weight before pregnancy is one of the best ways to ensure a healthy and diabetes free pregnancy.
