Prognosis of Guillain-Barre Syndrome

The prognosis of Guillain-Barre Syndrome is usually good, with recovery taking some time, sometimes even months or years. Generally, people tend to survive the condition and recover from it. According to the official figures released by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, only around 30% of the patients still complain of weakness and pain in their muscles after 3 years of rigorous treatment and therapy.

For some people, whose muscles have wasted considerably, mild weakness may continue through life. However, such numbers are very small. In case the treatment is given on time, and the symptoms disappear after about three weeks of their first incidence, the patient’s outcome is considered especially encouraging.
