Sonography is an assessment method, which makes use of sound waves of high frequency (20,000 kHz or more) to give vibrant pictures of the tissues, organs and blood flow, referred to as a sonogram. Sonography of the heart, abdomen, reproductive system and breast are common. It is used to assess the role of the heart and its anatomy, the tissues and organs of the abdomen, fetus development and breast anomalies and lumps. The spine and brain is evaluated through a neurosonology.

Heart disorders, attacks and ultimately stroke is monitored by sonography. Three kinds of sonography are interventional, routine and Doppler. Diagnostic medical sonography or ultrasound comprises an important part of the imaging technique. It is utilized in dental cleaning, breaking of kidney stones, cataract treatment, generation of heat in cancer treatment. A specialist or sonologist puts gel on a pregnant woman’s stomach and is bound to a transducer. The movement of the fetus is made available in the video and images are produced to decipher the underlying problem. All the minute parts, unavailable in a MRI or x-ray is included.

Sonography of abdomen involves the assessment of blood vessels, liver, soft tissues and spleen. It is used to detect anomalies of the breast, detected during mammography. Analysis of the female reproductive system and the blood flow of the heart is done by sonography. It also proves beneficial in assessing the central nervous system and the orbital structures and muscles of the eye.

Ultrasound sonography training is provided in schools. They pursue their career as ultrasound technician or sonography technician. The practical skill is provided by sonography schools and technically, training in the usage of the equipment in a safe manner. Sonographers earn the same as others in a similar field. Diagnostic medical sonography salary differs on the basis of experience, specialties, and location.

The responsibilities of a sonographer involves the care taken to give quality care to the patients, evaluate the patient’s past information, procure images, post diagnosis, assess technical information, coming to a conclusion with the other surgeons and physicians and present the summary of the results to the physician. They should also be aware of the probable problems, due to the body fluid’s revelation. They should be able to push and pull customarily, bow and lean forward, differentiate sounds, making the maximum use of hands and shoulders helping patients on the table, standing for long hours, communicate properly with the patients and precisely perform the various steps of the sonography procedure.
