Types of Prostatitis

The different types of prostatitis are as follows:

  • Acute Bacterial Prostatitis: The sudden onset of infection may lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fever and chills. This type of prostatitis is usually treated with antibiotics.
  • Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis: This type of prostatitis may be difficult to treat or may be recurring. It also commonly occurs along with urinary tract infections.
  • Chronic Prostatitis not due to Bacteria: Also known as chronic abacterial prostatitis, this condition may persist for up to 3 months. In some cases, the symptoms may worsen and then become less severe. The condition may improve with time without any treatment.
  • Asymptomatic Prostatitis: This type of prostatitis leads to no noticeable symptoms. It may be found during other routine screening or tests and does not require treatment.
