Sun blisters are a result of extreme sunburn. Before you treat any of the symptoms of this condition, you must ensure that you stay out of the sun. You should also ensure that you keep the affected areas covered and use some moisturizing lotion to keep them cool. If the blisters have developed on only a small area like your lips, you could drain these by yourself. However, you should not break open these blisters because it is recommended that you allow them to heal naturally. Most blisters do heal naturally within the space of a few days to a few weeks. It is also important that you remember not to peel the skin off because this will not cause you any pain or discomfort. Not peeling the skin off will also ensure that you do not expose the burn to any danger of infection.
It is also important to ensure that you keep your hands clean especially before you are going to touch the blisters to minimize all chances of infection. To drain a blister that is causing you discomfort, you should sterilize a needle, even if it is new, with either alcohol or hot water. You should then puncture the blister anyway on the edges of it and make a small opening. Then, gently begin to push the fluid inside the blister towards the opening so that it drains out. Once the blister has been drained, you should ensure that you treat at once. Clean the wound with disinfectant and dress it. Apply a medicated cream over the wound to keep it lubricated so that the dressing does not get stuck to it. Ensure that the dressing is not too tight and that it allows the wound to breathe a little. Do not try and remove the skin of the blister by yourself. It will fall off naturally in a few days.
