Your gums could be irritated because of some kind of an infection that has affected them. You should certainly consult your dentist at the earliest.
You can use a soft brush to clean your teeth and gums. Usually massaging your gums helps provide relief. You can try massaging your gums with a mixture of common slat and a pinch of turmeric. However, if you find that doing this causes pain and discomfort, you should stop at once. Instead you can clean your mouth with some warm salted water. Gargle gently and you will be surprised at how soothing it feels.
An ice pack is also an effective remedy to the pain from irritated gums. Hold the ice pack on the side of your face where the pain is the most intense. A cautious application of a paste made of baking powder and a few drops of water can also give you relief. However, this paste should be applied with great care. A wet tea bag is a great remedy for irritated gums. You should remember to clench the tea bag tightly between your teeth.
Avoid eating hard food. Food that is spicy, hot or contains anything that could irritate your gums should be avoided.
