What is the best thing for a toothache that I can do to get some sleep?

If you have a bad toothache that is keeping you awake, you should ensure that you see your dentist at the earliest. This could be an infection that requires urgent attention and should therefore not be ignored.

You can try dipping a towel in hot water and holding it on the side of your face where the tooth is. Heating the towel on a hot pan is another option. Clove oil is generally effective in treating trouble with teeth. You should use a clean cotton swab on which you can sprinkle a few drops of the clove oil before placing it on the tooth that hurts. A gargle with warm water can also give you relief. You can alternate this with a gargle with cold water. A tea bag, damped with some water can be placed on the painful tooth. The tannin in the tea helps to draw out the pain. If you happen to have a chamomile tea bag, this is generally believed to be very effective. Chew a piece of onion slice this is believed to instantly relieve the pain of an infected tooth. You can also mix a pinch of asafetida with some lime juice, heat slightly before putting on a cotton swab. Place this on the painful tooth. Avoid eating hard food since this is likely to be painful. Eat soft, well cooked food. Avoid eating very hot or very cold food.
