What are the causes of dark patches on face and other parts of the body?
There are a lot of reasons why you could suddenly start developing dark spots on the face. While light spotting is a natural result of the ageing process, sudden formation of the dark spots all over your face and body is not a good sign. For most men and women, age spots begin as small brown spots, which may initially appear as light freckling. An increase in melanin is another cause of age spots. Melanin is the natural coloring pigment on the skin. If the melanin producing glands, known as melanocytes, begin to overwork, they can cause dark spots on various parts of the body.
An infectious condition known as keratosis, causes red or brown colored patches on the skin along with rough and scaly skin. The skin may also be tender to the touch and is also irritated very easily. Melasma, commonly known as skin cancer, is also known to be one of the causes of dark patches on the face. The spots caused by melisma may be small or large, and may cover only your face or larger areas of the body. Medical treatment is required to remove dark spots on face caused by melasma. If the dark spots have been caused due to sun exposure, avoiding the sun for a few days can naturally lighten your skin.

What are the treatments for dark spots on face?
Dark spots can ruin your complexion and make you feel unattractive. Fortunately, there are ways in which you can take care of your dark spots. While natural remedies can help you lighten the spots on your face, they may not be able to treat the condition completely.
The first thing that you should ideally do is to talk to a dermatologist. For the treatment to be successful, it is important that the doctor knows exactly what is causing it. Hydrogen peroxide, lime juice, and buttermilk are some of the home remedies that can be used for the treatment of dark spots on the face. You can also use fresh aloe vera gel to remove the spots from the body. However, these natural remedies do not treat the condition completely.
Once you have got your diagnosis from the dermatologist, you can get medications for the treatment. Conditions like melisma and scleroderma need to be treated using antibiotics and other kinds of medications. You can also use laser surgery, which has been proved to be the most effective method of removing dark spots anywhere on the skin. Laser surgeries are expensive and therefore are usually not used to clear dark spots on face.

There are many different ways in which you can treat black spots at home using natural remedies. If you use the right home remedies, your dark spots can lighten to a large extent. If you are looking for home remedies for dark patches on the face, here’s what you can do:
- Citrus fruits contain compounds that are useful in lightening the dark spots and improving complexions. The natural acids in these fruits bleach the skin naturally. Dab at the dark spots using a cotton ball dipped in lemon juice. You can also use lemon juice and orange juice.
- Grate a single cucumber in to fine mulch and then squeeze it to get the juice from the slivers. Now soak a piece of cotton in cucumber juice and apply it all over your face. This acts as an astringent and allows your skin to cool off. It also helps lighten the skin color.
- Grind some fresh parsley and squeeze the juice from it. You can mix this juice with juices of red currant, lemon or orange. These can be applied directly to the skin or can be added to an unscented moisturizing cream so that your complexion becomes more even.
- Milk and honey is also among one of the best natural remedies for dark spots.
