Our ears contain natural wax to trap out any bacteria that might enter the body through the ear canals, since they are sensitive and relatively permeable. The primary role of the ear wax is to trap the bacteria and prevent them from entering the body. However, if the ear wax is not paid attention to, it can keep piling up and clog the ears, ultimately causing a severe infection.
The easiest way to unclog your ears is by using an ear wax softener. This softener is available in most medical shops. The buildup of wax in the ear can cause the ear sinuses to get blocked and can cause a host of problems including retention of fluid and pus in the ear and even hearing impairment.
If you want to remedy your clogged ears at home, the simplest way to do so is to use hydrogen peroxide. Use the solution through a dropper and drop a couple of drops into your ear cavity. However, consult your doctor before trying this. Since hydrogen peroxide is a relatively harsh chemical, it's better if you consult your doctor before putting it into your ears.
Clean out any amount of excessive ear wax that you can find. Do this immediately after a shower when the wax is soft and can be easily cleaned. If you can't find a softener in time and the wax has hardened, you can try using lukewarm olive oil. Put a few drops of the warm olive oil into your ear, directly onto the affected areas. The ear wax gets melted and you can use a simple cotton swab to further clean it completely.
Whenever you are blowing your nose make sure that your mouth is open. However, be careful not to blow very hard because this move might create unnecessary pressure in the Eustachian tubes and cause pain.
If due to the clogged ears, you are feeling pressure in your ears, try yawning and swallowing frequently. Both of these help in reducing the pressure and equalizing it to remove the pain.
Try using a heating pad on your ear. Moisten it first, before using it. The heat from the pad will help to unblock the ear and will immediately make you feel better. Try chewing gum; it helps to reduce the pressure. If the clogging is serious, you might need an antihistamine. However, it is better to consult your doctor before taking one. Your doctor may prescribe the drugs according to the severity of the clogging.
