Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema. Dermatitis means an inflammation of the skin while atopic stands for hereditary disorders. One of the most recommended remedies is a mixture of camphor and sandalwood. Take one teaspoon of camphor and mix it with one teaspoon of sandalwood paste. Apply this paste directly onto the rashes and leave it on for at least half an hour. One could also use nutmeg paste in a similar fashion. These steps greatly help relieve the itching sensation. A lotion of blueberry leaves too, when applied on to the rashes, reduce the inflammation. Humidifying your environment is also known to benefit dermatitis-dermatitis affected skin. This can be done with a humidifier or by just simply standing in your bathroom with the hot water running and the bathroom door closed. While taking baths however, use lukewarm water instead of hot or cold. Contrary to popular belief, baths do not worsen atopic dermatitis. For best results, go in for an oatmeal bath. Use 2 cups of oatmeal in a tub of lukewarm water for this purpose.
Your diet too plays an important role in your recovery. Your diet needs to be tailored according to your body needs and hence medical supervision is best here. On a general basis, avoid dairy products, eggs and citrus fruits as they tend to aggravate the affliction. Moisturize your skin regularly and always cover your skin when stepping out into the sun. Wear clothes made of soft cotton and strictly avoid wearing tight and ill-fitting clothes.
