Remedies for tongue bites in kids

Most of us have bitten our tongue sometime or the other and I don't mean metaphorically! A bitten tongue can be painful and can cause the tears to start from your eyes. When children bite their tongue it is really terrible. The first thing that you should do is use ice on the injured tongue. This will help the pain subside. If the child cannot bear the cold ice cube, you can give the child cold water to drink. Don't let the child swallow the water but ask her to hold it in her mouth so that it can soothe the injury on the tongue. You will have to ask her to spit out the mouthful of water and take in fresh water. Do this a few times till the wound stops bleeding.

You can also sprinkle a little sugar on the injury to help the child feel better. Don't let the child talk too much since this will only aggravate the injury. Avoid giving the child spicy food that will hurt the open cut on her tongue. You can give her plenty of fruit juices and water to drink. A soft diet - consisting of food that will not irritate the cut on the tongue should be consumed by the child.
