Cellulitis is caused by a bacterium. It can be streptococcus or staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria enter the body through a break in the skin. Usually skin injuries such as cuts, bruises, insect bites, burns, trauma or even surgical incisions can be a passage for the bacteria. If infected by the methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus bacterium, the infection can become extremely serious and aggravated. In the early stages one might try some home remedies such as thyme. Intake of 1 to 2 grams of thyme in four to five doses per day can help. Also a herbal paste of goldenseal and slippery elm can be made and applied twice a day to provide some relief. A balanced diet, massage and light exercise could also be of help to the patient. It is advised that one should seek medical attention as cellulitis can aggravate and lead to severe conditions.
