I have loath of skin outside my rectum. It does not bleed, there is no pain in it just a piece of skin. What is this? Is this piles or fissures?

This is mostly likely a rectal skin tag which is an excess growth of skin around the rectum. They are often mistaken for piles or other conditions and hence it is advisable to have your doctor examine the growth. Anal or rectal skin tags usually do not lead to any symptoms and are mostly harmless. In some cases, pain or itching may occur when the skin tag rubs against the surrounding skin or clothing. This may cause the skin tag to swell causing you some amount of discomfort in the surrounding area. Home remedies for anal or rectal skin tags include the following;

  • Apple cider vinegar helps to dry up skin tags. Apply a small amount of the vinegar to the skin tags daily. They will become dry and fall off in time.
  • Soak fenugreek seeds in water overnight and drink the next morning on an empty stomach. This will help you get rid of skin tags. You can also chew on soaked fenugreek seeds.
  • Combine castor oil and baking soda and apply to the skin tag. This helps to dry out the tissue and causes the tag to fall off in a couple of weeks.
  • Tying dental floss or a thread around the base of the skin tag stops blood flow and lets the tissue die. This causes the tag to detach from the skin and fall off. However it is advisable to have this procedure done by your doctor as it may lead to pain, bleeding or scarring.

Bulging blood vessels, either inside or outside the rectum is referred to as hemorrhoids or piles. A fissure is a tear in the anal skin, resulting in pain during defaecation.
