Diet Precautions after Food Poisoning
Food poisoning is referred to as an infection caused by the consumption of food contaminated with disease-causing microorganisms. Food poisoning is generally caused by food-borne infectious organisms that invade the food substances and as such, are transmitted through food.
When you suffer from food poisoning, you must be cautious in terms of your diet. The recommended diet for food poisoning is as follows:
- You must stay hydrated at all times of the day so as to treat and prevent the incidence of food poisoning as the food borne germs may exasperate your digestive tract, causing loss of water from the body. You may make up for the loss of electrolytes of body fluids with fluids like fruit juices and soups.
- The physiological machinery of the body is enervated on account of the weakening of the body due to the attack of food-borne infectious organisms. As such, the consumption of a bland diet is advisable as it is easily digestible and nutritious. These foods include cereal and porridge.
- You are advised not to consume canned foods, confectionery products, and spicy foods.
- You must not consume chocolates, deep fried foods, cocoa, legumes, and gas causing vegetables like the eggplant.
- You are advised to drink apple cider vinegar in warm water before every meal so as to restore the normal functioning of the digestive system.
- You may also consume lime water in order to cleanse your digestive tract, thereby facilitating efficient digestion of food.
- Chew slices of ginger soaked in lime juice and salt.
- You may also drink mint tea along with ginger so as to alleviate nausea and heart burn, the symptoms associated with food poisoning.
- You must not consume raw foods so as to prevent food poisoning. You must not eat uncooked poultry, eggs and meat.
- You must eat a lot of vegetables, preferably in a boiled state to destroy the germs. Vegetables enhance the resistance of body, thereby imparting immunity against diseases, including the infectious agents causing food poisoning.
- Consume fruits like pomegranate and papaya as these fruits have antibacterial properties, which impart resistance to the body, thereby averting the incidence of food poisoning.
- Alcohol and alcoholic beverages must be avoided completely.
These are a few recommendations to follow for a diet for food poisoning. It is also of utmost importance to consult a doctor and follow the prescribed course of treatment.
