Causes of Melanoma

The causes of melanoma are varied. However, some causes of melanoma may include:

  • Genetic Factors: Individuals predisposed to genetic influences that cause skin or other types of cancer may face the risk of melanoma. A family history of malignant moles or skin conditions place individuals at a higher risk of contracting the disease.
  • Environmental factors now show that UV rays from the sun maybe responsible for some cases of melanoma. Overexposure to the harmful UV rays may trigger conditions that cause multiplication of cancerous cells and growth.
  • In recent years, the use of tanning beds and lamps, which involve ultra violet radiation, has turned out as one of the causes of melanoma. Tanning beds and lamps used for cosmetic purposes lead to direct and prolonged skin exposure to UV radiation. Regular use of these devices may increase the risk of melanoma.
